During this overnight trip you’ll trek across the snow covered peaks of the oldest National Park of the country – the Krkonoše Mountains. You will put on snowshoes and reach the highest peak of the Czech Republic – Sněžka 1602 meters / 5256 feet a.s.l.
To make the most of the trip (and for your safety and comfort), our group will be accompanied by my friend Ondra who lives in the area and is a certified mountain leader.
DIFFICULTY: Medium to Demanding
(Will challenge most hikers. Good health and physical fitness is necessary)
This 2-day trek in the snow-covered Krkonoše will involve about 25 km of snowshoeing and ascending some 1500 altitude metres including the highest point of the Czech Republic Snežka. On top of that, you will need to maintain a good hiking speed to complete the route in the allocated time. If you usually walk at a steady but slow pace, this trip is too hard for you.
What to take with you:
“Functional”, sweat-absorbing underwear, windproof and waterproof jacket, hat and gloves, sun screen, sun-glasses, headlamp, pyjamas/comfortable clothes for sleeping, toiletries.
Only pack what you can comfortably carry!
Do NOT bring a sleeping bag!
LOGISTICS
The times and the meeting point will be confirmed when a new bus timetable is published in mid-December.
In 2020, we met on Saturday morning at 6:50 in front of the old building of Prague Main Train Station (Fantova budova) and came back from the trip on Sunday at 20:05.
ACCOMMODATION
You’ll stay in a lovely mountain hotel at 1260 meters/4130 ft a.s.l. There are rooms for 3, 4 and 5 persons and two bathrooms – one for gents, one for ladies. The accommodation includes Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast. Bedding and towels are provided.
PRICE
2190 CZK or 1990 CZK with Discovery Pass
The price includes round-trip bus ticket from Prague, accommodation with half-board (dinner and breakfast), snowshoes & poles rental, guiding by a certified mountain leader, a one-way cable car ticket, tour operator insurance and photos from the trip.
