Let’s canoe on Jizera!

For the first time, we will canoe on the Jizera, a pleasant river bringing water from the Krkonoše and Jizera Mountains to the Elbe.

Ahoj Discoverers, let’s canoe on the Jizera river near Prague!
It is a small but important river because it provides a third of the drinking water supply for the whole Prague agglomeration.
We will run the lower part to the confluence with the Elbe where the sandy river flows slowly along quiet green banks with an occasional playful rapid. There is only one weir.
You can join even if you haven’t canoed before as long as you can swim. You should also be somewhat physically coordinated and have patience to learn a new motor skill.
I’m not a certified instructor but I have taught countless people the basics of canoeing.
DIFFICULTY: Easy to Medium
About 15 km / 9 miles. 1 weir (not runnable). The trip includes a 3 km walk.
LOGISTICS
We will meet at 9:20 AM at the bus station “Černý most” – outside of metro B terminus of the same name.
First, a 30 min bus ride and then a 3 km walk will take us to the launching place.
For the journey back to Prague, we will take a train to the Masaryk station via Praha – Vysočany.
We’ll be aiming to be back in Prague by 19:00. However, we will be as fast as the slowest members of our group and an unexpected delay is possible. This is a full-day event.
What to bring with you
Shoes to wear in water (sandals, or you can buy special shoes for walking in water), wear clothes which dry fast (NOT jeans), sunscreen, spare T-shirt, trousers and underwear (in case your canoe capsizes), towel, swimwear if you are brave, bottle of water and a small snack. Put all your staff to a small compact bag – we will put all our belongings into water-proof barrels and they are not very large.
Since dropping my phone in the river and losing my glasses during capsizing, I’ve been recommending everyone to keep their phone in a waterproof case and having glasses on a string while on the boat.
