DIFFICULTY: Easy to medium

8 km long route, mostly on unpaved, potentially muddy marked and unmarked hiking trails. On top of that, there is a steep descent and ascent overcoming the altitude difference between the Bohnice plateau and the Vltava river and a cliff view with a potential for a long fatal fall.

TAKE WITH YOU

Good, non-slippery shoes are strongly recommended. Water and a snack.

MEETING POINT & THE PLAN

We will meet on Sunday 4th of November, at 9:30 am at Kobylisy metro C station. More specifically at the bus number 102 stop which is in front of the “Katastralni Urad” (Land Registry Office). Exit the metro station to “Katastralni urad” and see the photo below. Please mind the less frequent Sunday public transit and give yourself enough time to get there in time. We will take the bus 102 at 9:48 am and won’t be able to wait for anybody!

If you live in Bohnice: Meet the group at the bus  102 terminus “Stare Bohnice” –  our bus from Kobylisy will arrive there at 9:59 am.

Bohnice is an ancient village, first mentioned in 1158. Nowadays the core of the old settlement forms a village conservation area. It is here where we will start hiking. We firstly follow the blue trail to the nice viewing point overlooking the natural reserve Bohnice valley. Here we will leave the trail to have a peek into the former graveyard of the Bohnice Asylum also known as the Mad Men cemetery, considered by some the scariest place in Prague.

After a quick, steep descent, we will find ourselves at the bank of Vltava, right next to the large dog shelter in Zamky. Howl! Following the river, we will pass the gate of the oldest dynamite factory in the Czech lands. Nowadays it’s just a dilapidated warehouse and storage facility.

A short, steep ascent will bring us back on the plateau high above the river. This strategic place has been settled since the Stone Age and remnants of the old fortress “Zamka” are still visible today.

The last 2,5 km of the walk will lead firstly through the fields and meadows of Drahan-Troja Natural Park and then along the shallow valley of Cimicky potok (Cimice Stream Natural Reserve)

The walk ends at the pleasant suburb of Cimice which boasts with the cleanest environment in Prague 8. From here you can easily get back to Kobylisy metro by bus number 145, 152 and 169.

WHAT IF THE WEATHER’S WET

PLAN B if the weather is wet – we will take a shorter route without the descent to the river.

If the weather is terribly bad, i.e. heavy rain, the event will be cancelled. Check this page in the morning before the event.
