Netwalking

100

FREE with Discovery Pass!

Netwalking is networking while walking and talking. Let’s stretch our legs and have a friendly chat!

Every week we start at a metro station, walk some 7-8 km in parks and quiet streets and top-off the walk with a drink or meal in a pub.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN

  • Opportunity to meet like minded people on a regular basis and develop relationships beyond „What is your name?“ and „What do you do?“.
  • You will get to know the city better. There are so many interesting places everywhere in Prague, not just in the historic city centre.
  • Walking is the best exercise.

WHEN: Every other Thursdays (from 6:30 PM) alternating with every other Sunday (from 10:00 AM). From January to March 2020 every Sunday from 10:00 AM.

Sunday Netwalking in the Parks of the West

1st March 2020

Hallo Discoverers!

Let me invite you to another fast-paced Sunday Netwalking :)

We will meet at one of the quietest metro stations in Prague – “Radlická” on the B line.

The walk will take us through some peaceful residential areas and the “parks” will be mostly the woods of the Košíře-Motol Landscape Park. The terrain in this part of Prague is quite hilly, so we’ll have a good workout too.

Near the end of the walk, we will enjoy a view of the iconic metro bridge between Hůrka and Lužiny station from the top of Machu Picchu, or rather “Makču Pikču”.
That’s how locals call a huge mount of soil left after digging the tunnels of the metro B line in the late 1980’s.
I find the name quite funny and the view from there is gorgeous!

We will end the walk around 12:15 at the Lužiny metro B station. I hope you will join me for a well-deserved lunch or at least a drink at the Lužiny Microbrewery.

DIFFICULTY: Medium

Around 8 km with about 200 meters / 650 ft of vertical gain, i.e. it will be hilly! Mostly on paved paths however, be prepared for some muddy or icy trails as well!

And, as you know, I tend to walk quite fast :)

Sunday Netwalking to the East End of Prague

8th March 2020

One thing which Prague has in common with London, is that historically, the industrial working-class suburbs were located to the east of the city centre.

And, like in London, factories and workshops were replaced by residential housing and now it is a pleasant part of the city with good facilities and transport links.

For this netwalk we will meet on Sunday 8th of March at 10:00 am outside of the metro B station “Palmovka”, in front of “Libeřské lahůdky” shop.
The meeting point on Google maps: https://goo.gl/maps/bFKntJxuwqWDzULE8

We will first walk up the southern slope of a small hill called Hájek (which lit. means “grove”) and explore the nooks and corners of this peculiar neighborhood which originated as a slum of provisional dwellings in 1938-9.

From Hájek, we will descent to the valley of Rokytka, a small tributary of the Vltava, and this creek will be our guide for the rest of the walk. The course of Rokytka forms a green belt winding around former factory grounds of Czech household names like ČKD or Pragovka.

Nowadays, it is a great place for a walk or bike ride and you can learn about the rich and turbulent history of this part of Prague on information panels along the trail.

The last highlight of the walk will be the neo-Gothic Hloubětin Chateau, nowadays serving as a private hospital. Interestingly, it was here in 2005, where the first baby-box in the Czech Republic was installed.

As usual, after the hike we’ll go for (optional) lunch. We will go to “Na Staré poště” which is a traditional Czech pub in one of the oldest buildings in Hloubětín.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Quirky nooks and corners of the Hájek Hill near Palmovka
• Lovely walk along the Rokytka creek.
• “English” style Hloubetin Chateau

DIFFICULTY: Easy

Around 7 km with 74 meters/242 ft of vertical gain. About one third of the route leads on unpaved paths so depending on the weather, you can expect either mud or ice.

MEETING POINT

Outside of the metro B station “Palmovka”, in front of “Libeřské lahůdky” shop.
