Let’s put on our best outfit and head to the Karlin Musical Theatre, one of Prague’s oldest theatres, to watch Rusalka, a classical Czech opera.

RUSALKA BY ANTONIN DVORAK
The plot of this magical fairy tale is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s “Little Mermaid”. Rusalka, a water nymph, falls in love with a “human” prince and she begs her father, the Water Gnome (“Hastrmanek” or “Vodnik”) to let her become a human being so that she can leave the water and live with the prince. The Water Gnome reluctantly agrees and, with the help of the witch, Rusalka turns into a woman. To makes things harder, she has to sacrifice her voice, however, despite her being mute, the Prince falls in love with her and they get married. There is a catch to all this: if the prince is unfaithful to her, a curse will fall upon both lovers. How will it end? You’ll find out – no spoilers here.
LANGUAGE: The opera is in Czech, but there are excellent English and German overtitles (even Czech speakers read them, it is hard to understand when they sing)

AVAILABILITY: Eight seats on the second balcony in the middle are reserved for our group. The price/view ratio is very good. This reservation must be confirmed and paid for by Friday, 1 December. Additional seats may be reserved at a later stage, but we cannot guarantee they will be located close by and the price might be higher.
